Fretscape has three playback styles:

  • Strum — plays the chord as one hit.
  • Arpeggio — plays the notes one at a time from low to high.
  • Both — plays the arpeggio first, then the full chord.

You can change this under Settings → Playback.

Single voicings and progressions

There are two playback style settings:

  • Play Style controls the play button on individual voicing cards and in the voicing details panel.
  • Progression Play Style controls Play All in the Progression Builder.

They are separate so you can use one style for checking a single chord and another for hearing a progression.

Tap Save Changes when you're done.

Strum

Strum plays the chord as a single sound.

Use it when you want the quickest sense of the chord as a whole.

Arpeggio

Arpeggio plays the notes one at a time, from the lowest string used in the voicing to the highest.

Use it when you want to hear the individual notes inside the chord, especially the bass note, top note, or added colour tones.

Both

Both plays the arpeggio first, then the full chord.

Use it when you want to hear the notes separately and then hear how they sound together.

Which one should I use?

Use Strum for quick auditioning.

Use Arpeggio when you want to inspect the notes inside a voicing.

Use Both when you want both views and do not mind playback taking a little longer.

Your choice stays in place until you change it again. When you're signed in, Fretscape saves the setting to your account.
