Fretscape stores three things: the account details you give us when you sign up, the chord work you save while using the app, and basic usage data we use to keep the service healthy and improve it. We don't see or store your card details, and we don't collect anything we don't need.

The Privacy Policy has the full legal text. This article is the short, plain version.

Account information

When you create an account, we store your display name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google — nothing else.

If you change your display name or email later, the new value replaces the old one in our records.

Your saved work

Anything you save in Fretscape is tied to your account so it's there next time you sign in. That includes:

  • Favourite voicings
  • Saved chord progressions
  • Custom tunings (if you're on Pro)
  • Your preferences — instrument sound, diagram display mode, notation system, left-handed mode, and so on

This is the data the app needs to work. Deleting your account removes all of it — see What happens to my data when I delete my account? for the full breakdown.

Usage data

We collect basic technical data so Fretscape works reliably and we can fix problems:

  • Your IP address
  • Device, browser, and operating system details
  • General location (country / region — not your street)
  • Which features get used and where people get stuck (through Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity)

Analytics tools record activity under a random visitor ID, not under your name. You can turn off analytics cookies whenever you want — see What cookies does Fretscape use?.

Payment information

When you upgrade to Pro, payment is handled by Stripe (on the web) or Google Play (on Android). We never see or store your full card number — only a record of the purchase itself. See How is my payment information stored? for more.

Anything else?

If you email help@fretscape.com, we keep that email so we can answer you and look back at the thread if you write again. If you'd like a copy of what we hold, see How do I request a copy of my data?.
